bikes and sign language!

Hi All! Two unrelated things :)

First: I am taking American Sign Language 101 and I would be really happy to find somebody to practice with. Is anybody else a beginner in Sign Language, (or actually any skill level who doesn't mind a beginner), who wants to meet once a week or every other week to practice together?

Second: There's a bike repair collective starting in Rochester right now! It is just in its very beginning stages. Currently we're passing knowledge from folks who know a lot to folks who don't know as much about bike repair, figuring out a way to get tools, making repair stands, and talking about the way the project is going to actually function. It will eventually be open in a community center that some members of the project are also working on opening up. If you're interested in being involved in this project feel free to email me at breezyroy (at) gmail (dot) com.

Nice! Have you made an announcement on rocbike.com? That crew and "Community Bike Alliance" (a well-fliered group that seems to have evaporated when winter struck) are the two communities I know about that should hear about a bike repair collective.

Other than that, there may be some compatible energy with Critical Mass and the folks who fix up bikes for the homeless (blanking on the name).

You may already know all of this, just trying to connect the dots in case not.

Thanks for the dots connections. Luckily all of them have already been connected but it's great to hear of other people who know about all of these things as well! :)

i dunno if you're old enough to drink, and maybe it doesn't matter, but there are deaf happy hours where people who sign congregate. They generally dont mind helping you and are glad you're taking an interest.
also at these events you may find interpreting students who are hearing and may also be willing to help you.
there was a pizza night a few years ago, but I dont know anything concrete about that anymore.
i think there's a site deafrec.org or something like that.
your teacher should be able to help.
